How popular is the name Biff in the USA
It’s virtually unknown outside of literary and screen narratives.
Let’s see:
- I was in the US military and I have helped homeless vets for nearly 30 years and I have never met anyone named Biff.
- I have lived in or near three of the four largest cities in the United States (and for personal reasons I have traveled many times to the fourth) and I have never encountered anyone named Biff.
- I’m African American and I have never met nor heard of any African American males of any age named “Biff”, or who had Biff as a nickname.
- I read news articles from 20–25 newspapers a day and I probably read as many news stories from various television and radio newscasts online and I have done so for two decades on the Internet and I have never run across anyone named “Biff” in any of the stories that I read. I would have remembered as it’s such an uncommon name that it would have stood out.
- I have seen nearly 17,000 films and other than than the character portrayed by the actor Thomas F. Wilson in the Back To The Future franchise (Biff Tannen) and the son of the protagonist of the play turned feature film Death of a Salesman (Biff Loman, whose name inspired the Back To The Future character’s naming) I have never heard of any other film nor television characters with that name.
Basically questioner, you are very likely going to go through your life without ever meeting anyone with that name as a given name, nor as nickname.
