Why did actor Steve Carell have to lie for so many months
Steve Carell, who played Michael Scott on The Office, said goodbye to the series in season 7. However, the actor appeared in the last part of the surprise sitcom at the character Dwight's wedding.

The participation was an unexpected moment for the audience, as Carell's appearance was kept secret by everyone in the production. In a 2013 interview with TVLine, the actor said: “I lied.”
He continued: “I lied for months to the press, to almost everyone, really. And I felt really bad for the cast and [executive producer] Greg Daniels, because they all lied too.”
The actor also commented on how he knew "several months" of final filming that he would be involved in the final season. Still, the entire team decided to keep the participation private "because we figured it would be a fun surprise if people weren't expecting it."
